Namibian born Juanita is the new pop princess of South Africa. She is the modern day Sonja Herholdt, shifting tons of albums of beat heavy pop to an Afrikaans population that can’t seem to get enough of this sort of stuff.
‘Engel Van My Hart’ is the title track of her 3 times platinum album and is a good example of the genre of music that she, Kurt Darren and the like have been selling for a while now. The song has a pounding, almost high energy (remember that from the late 80’s) beat and Juanita’s strong vocals rising to a sing-a-long chorus that will undoubtedly fill many a wedding dance floor.
This will really only appeal to a portion of the population that go for this sort of stuff, but it is in this list because it something you need to hear if you want to be au fait with all of South Africa’s diverse music.
